2023 Date and Price Information

Still time to book a farm field trip!

Our 2023 farm field season is almost here. We are now taking reservations for Apple Picking, Cider Making and Pumpkin Picking field trips. Due to Covid concerns we will not be offering the live theater shows this year but hope that people will be comfortable with indoor, close quarters events by next season. We will again be offering the outdoor educational Scavenger Hunt as a safe alternative.

Because there is still some uncertainty in dealing with Covid and all of the mixed messages that have been given, we plan on offering the following options this year. These are aimed at keeping costs down while providing choices that will fit each school’s covid protocols.

Option 1—For schools trying to play it covid safe and keep their costs down, we’ll have the Meet and Pick option. This will give your students time to meet the farmer, ask a few questions, go pick apples or pumpkins, and spend some time with the farm animals. This can be accomplished in a little over an hour and will allow your students to maintain safe distances from each other in an outdoor sitting. The cost for this program is $4.00 per student and includes a 1/4 peck bag of apples or a pumpkin, for each child, to pick from the trees or patches.

Option 2—This will be the same as above with the addition of our delicious apple cider and cider donuts. The cost for this is $5.40 per student.

Option 3—This will be similar to option 1, but will add Farner Hill’s Educational Scavenger Hunt, which takes approximately an additional 40 minutes if you choose to find all of the hidden stations. Students will be divided into groups of 5-8 and will be given instructions on how to read the maps and mark the handout sheets. The cost for this option is $5.10 per student and includes the 1/4 peck bag (or pumpkin) and animal visit. Add cider and cider donuts for a total of $6.50.

You probably noticed that hayrides are not mentioned. Hayrides, being outside, are a fairly safe activity, but we realize that they require students to sit close to each other for a significant time period. We understand that some parents may be uncomfortable with this, so hayrides are optional this year. The cost to man and operate them has gotten very expensive. Because of this, groups with over 50 riders will pay a $45.00 flat fee for the hayride. Groups with 20 - 50 riders will pay a flat fee of $30 for the hayride, and groups under 20 riders will pay a flat fee of $25 for the hayride.

The cider pressing program is mostly outdoors but will be limited to groups of 40* to help give a little space while actually making cider. *If you have a larger group we can split your group and take half of the students in at a time. The cost for the cider making program depends on the size of your group. Groups of; 20 or more participants - $6.50 per student, 10 -19 participants $8.50 per student, under 10 participants, $12.00. Add cider and donuts, add $1.25. Cider pressing programs include gathering apples, cider making, a hayride, the Scavenger Hunt and each child receiving a pint of pastuarized cider to take home.

If you prefer to choose only donuts or only cider, instead of having both, the cost will be $0.80 for donuts and $0.65 for cider.

The Apple Tree Theater program is more difficult to maintain covid protocols and will not be offered this year.

**Quantities of apples available for picking may vary from year to year. As in all farming enterprises, weather plays a major role in determining the size of a crop. At times guests may need to harvest apples from bins rather than trees.
