Frequently Asked Questions

When does the orchard open and close for the season?

Our season usually runs from early July through the first week of November, however the dates vary from year to year depending on the weather and conditions. It's always best to call before arriving to make sure that the farm is open and that the picking conditions are good!

Why is the orchard closed on Saturdays?

George Hill Orchards is a Seventh Day Adventist family owned business. Because Saturday is our families day of rest and worship, we choose to close the farm for business on this day in observance of our faith. This not only gives us a chance to rest but our trees as well, making the picking extra bountiful on Sunday, our main day of operation!

Do you have land for sale?

George Hill Orchards is offering two beautiful lots for sale. If you would like to give your family a gift that keeps on giving, email Farmer Don to learn more about your chance to enjoy this beauty all year long.

Do you sell strawberries?

Unfortunately we do not have strawberries for sale in our store or for Pick Your Own.

Do you still have pears?

It has been a tough decision, but due to the systemic and stronger chemicals it would take to grow our pears profitably we have decided to stop selling them.  Without the chemicals (that do not fit within our low spray philosophy) it is impossible to grow marketable pears.  We had originally planted Asian pears due to their resistance to certain pests, but unfortunately they have succumbed to the same pests as do European pears.  We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Do you still have raspberries?

Due to our low spray farm policy we no longer produce raspberries as a PYO crop.

Can we plan a group event at your orchard?

Yes! George Hill Orchards is a beautiful and unique location for a relaxing group outing. From large groups to small family outings we will design and organize a great event for you.

Do you charge an entrance fee?

During the summer and weekdays in the fall there is no entrance fee for the orchard. On Sundays in September and October we do charge a small fee to enter the orchard. However, the cost of admission is returned to you as a purchase voucher that you can spend at the farmhouse grille or for your fruit purchases! We also have a variety of baked goods and pre-picked apples in the barn that you can access without paying to enter the farm.

What farm activities do you offer and when do they begin?

On Sundays during the fall, weather permitting, we have many activities for the entire family to enjoy, including pony rides, face painting, wagon rides, live music, pick your own fruit, and a petting zoo! Our fall season usually begins on Labor Day weekend and runs through the last weekend in October. For more information on what activities are available the day of your visit, please call or email before you arrive.

Do you offer apple drops for PYO?

We do allow visitors to pick apple drops during weekday afternoons in the fall for those who want apples in bulk for baking, canning and storing. Please call or email for pricing and availability.

Do you sell pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas?

Although the orchard is closed during the holidays, we do occasionally offer pies by order only, available for pick up. If you're interested in having us make your holiday pies this year, please call and speak with Farmer Don or Annette to ask about availability and to place your order.
